Captain Kidd (1945) Tuesday, January 5th, 7 p.m. Darkside Cinema

Directed by Rowland V. Lee, starring Charles Laughton, Randolph Scott, John Carradine and Barbara Britton.
It’s laughs, love and adventure on the high seas as one of the most notorious real life pirates in British history, Captain William Kidd, is CaptainKiddscreeningPRINTbrought to life by the incomparable Charles Laughton. He would later reprise the role for a film with Abbott and Costello in 1952, but he wouldn’t be the only one to play the famous privateer, just the best. The historical veracity of this film cannot be questioned; it’s unquestionably inaccurate in the extreme. So if you want to learn about the real life historical figure, please go read a book. If you like the pirate genre and amazingly charismatic, if unconventionally handsome, leads, this is your film. 2016 is going to be a great year of lost and classic films. Don’t miss it!
This CMNYK screening is going down at the Darkside Cinema on Tuesday, January 5th, and the fun starts at 7:00 PM. As always, admission is FREE, but donations are welcomed and benefit the Darkside Cinema renovations. The show will be preceded by an intro from former high school orchestra president, Ygal Kaufman, as well as newsreels, shorts, cartoons and other weird goodies from 1945 to make the experience extra authentic. See you all there!

Till the Clouds Roll By (1946) Tuesday, December 22 @ Darkside Cinema

Directed by Richard Whorf, starring Van Heflin, Van Johnson, Robert Walker, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Lena Horne, Cyd Charisse and Angela Lansbury.
Celebrating the life of legendary songwriter Jerome Kern, this “biography” is much less an accurate telling of his life than it is a gorgeous presentation of his life’s work. Featuring 21 amazing and grandiose CloudsRollPRINTrenditions of his legendary hits by the biggest stars of the day, the film is almost more of a concert film than a plain narrative. Robert Walker portrays Kern and Van Heflin plays his fictional best pal/arranger. Frank Sinatra plays himself, as he always did. It’s going to be grand night of music with one of the great MGM musicals of the era. Don’t miss it!
