The Milky Way (1936) Tuesday, August 16th, 7 PM, Darkside Cinema, Free Admission!

This zany comedy is one of the legendary Harold Lloyd’s few talkies. He’s most well known for his silent masterpieces, including Safety Last! (1923). In this wonderful laugher he plays a milkman who improbably becomes a boxing star. The great Adolphe Menjou plays the MilkyWayScreeningDARKSIDEunscrupulous manager who tries to manipulate him.  This classic was later remade as a musical called The Kid from Brooklyn (1946), with Danny Kaye, but this version is closest to the original Broadway play, and is a delightful speaking role for Lloyd.
This CMNYK screening is going down at the Darkside Cinema on Tuesday, August 9th, 2016 and the fun starts at 7:00 PM. As always, admission is FREE, but donations are welcomed and benefit the Darkside Cinema renovations. newsreels, shorts, cartoons and other weird treats from 1936 to make the experience extra authentic, as well as a silent short film starring French legend Max Linder with live music provided by Justin Schepige and Kevin Van Walk of the Van Meyers and DTW.
